  3. The activity sheets BUILD1 and BUILD2 allow students to examine a document
  4. from 1296 and establish some of the problems that James St. George had in
  5. meeting the tight building schedule demanded by Edward I. Students are
  6. asked to use their interpretation of this evidence to derive certain
  7. conclusions.

  10. Spreadsheet Task

  12. The final question encourages students to use a spreadsheet to work out 
  13. wages from information in the document. The spreadsheet file WAGES is
  14. provided in Key Calc format. For schools not using Key Calc, two other files
  15. are provided. WAGESCSV, if dropped onto cell A1 of an open spreadsheet,
  16. should put the correct text into the correct cells. Unfortunately, formulas
  17. cannot be held in this way and need to be entered by the teacher. These,
  18. together with an illustration of the spreadsheet, are held in the activity
  19. sheet SSTEMP. You may need to substitute some characters in the formulas 
  20. depending on which spreadsheet you are using. For example, some spreadsheets 
  21. use ";" or ":" instead of "," between cell references in formulas. If things
  22. don't work, check your software manual for the right syntax.
